VIRTUA TO PUT NAME ON TIER I AND II YOUTH HOCKEY CLUB AT VIRTUA FLYERS SKATE ZONE

Philadelphia, PA (March 29, 2016) –Virtua, a long-standing partner with Flyers Skate Zone, a series of community ice rinks, today announced an extension of their partnership where the health provider will put their name on the prestigious and highly successful Tier I and Tier II Youth Hockey program.  The Virtua Youth Hockey Club, competing at the Virtua Health Flyers Skate Zone in Pennsauken, NJ, will compete regionally and nationally at youth hockey’s highest level.

Skate Zone’s Tier I Youth Hockey Club (formerly Team Comcast) has had tremendous success developing players and helping them move to the next level of hockey.  Since inception (2005), the program has helped countless players move into the top junior and collegiate programs in the country.  The extensive development and exposure that the Club provides has led to 56 current and former players earning NCAA Division I college commitments, and well over 100 players playing at the Division III level.  Johnny Gaudreau, a second-year player with the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League, is a former member of this program.

“We are very pleased to continue our partnership with the Virtua Flyers Skate Zones in Voorhees and Pennsauken, New Jersey,” said Richard P. Miller, Virtua President.  “Virtua’s mission is to help people in our communities to Be Well, Get Well and Stay Well. Through our continued partnership we can encourage young athletes early in their careers to live healthy lifestyles and also learn proper safety techniques to avoid injury.”

“This partnership with Virtua is a natural extension of our long-standing facility naming rights deal,” said Pat Ferrill, Comcast Spectacor Senior Vice President of Flyers Skate Zone and President of Virtua Hockey.  “Virtua has been an incredible partner of ours, as we already collaborate on many community initiatives.  Flyers Skate Zone and Virtua both value the importance of serving the community and we will now be providing direct benefits to all of our youth hockey participant families, while simultaneously extending Virtua’s brand throughout the mid-Atlantic region and all across the country.”

In addition to the naming rights for the program, Virtua will also be providing a variety of health and wellness programs for Virtua Hockey players and their families, including a concussion management program, comprehensive sports management care, nutrition seminars, a Sports Injury Hotline, and preferred appointment scheduling.

Virtua Hockey tryouts for the 2016-17 Season will be conducted on Wednesday, April 6 through Friday, April 8 at the Virtua Health Flyers Skate Zone in Pennsauken, New Jersey.
